US inquiring about Indian vaccine exports ahead of Quad meeting

US is regularly in contact with India via multilateral and bilateral channels to discuss supply of vaccines Covid-19 and ask about the timeline for resuming exports an official from the Joe Biden administration official told Reuters.

The availability of Covid vaccines is one of the main topics to be discussed during the first live Quad leaders meeting in Washington that will be attended by Joe Biden and Prime Ministers Narendra Modi of India, Scott Morrison of Australia, and Yoshihide Suga from Japan on the 24th of September as reported by of our New Delhi correspondent.

In the past, Quad leaders had their first summit in March. They also decided to collaborate closely on vaccines for Covid-19.

India was forced to stop its exports of vaccines the devastating second wave of Covid-19.

It is believed that the WHO Covax initiative for supplying vaccines to middle and low-income countries relies on the supply from India that, however, is seeking to boost the manufacturing in India of vaccines as part of a race to vaccine all 94 million adults by 2021.

The country has given at least the initial shot to 76 million adults.
